Green School

By increasing efforts, and establishing goals to educate students and staff about recycling and waste prevention,  Kennedy  joins the ranks of certified Oregon Green Schools.

Kennedy started recycling several years ago with basic paper, cans and plastics recycling. Recognizing the curriculum value of environmental activities, students and staff began to compost and set goals for the next year including: setting up hot compost piles as well as a worm composting system for cafeteria food waste, increasing availability of basic recycling bins in all areas of the school, using more durable dishes in the cafeteria, developing slide presentations for school-wide training on the importance of recycling, and developing curriculum for a “reuse art” class.

Each year students and staff from participating Green Schools and Green Schools coordinators are invited to the Green Schools Summit for a full day of celebration, learning and networking.

We are currently in process of applying for the next level in green school status. Please continue to look forward to the wonderful activities that move Kennedy in this direction.
