Welcome to a New School Year in South Lane!

September 11, 2026

Dear South Lane Families,

It’s back-to-school time! It is so wonderful to see students back in the classrooms, in the halls and on the playgrounds. Their success is our motivation, and we are deeply thankful for your trust in us. We value our partnership in education, and look forward to a new year ahead, filled with possibility, growth and smiles. South Lane School District is stepping into a renewed era, one defined by community roots, high aspirations, and committed support for every student’s future.

Guided by input from our students, parents, staff, and neighbors, our work this year is anchored in the three new community-driven maxims below. Inspired by our local timber and mining heritage, these simple, research-backed principles reflect the traits our community values most. They unite us around shared goals and high expectations to ensure every student develops the skills needed for lifelong success.
Dig Deep
We work hard to build our strengths
Stay Rooted
We care fore our community
Grow Strong
We prepare for the future

  • DIG DEEP: We value effort and growth. Through hard work and daily attendance, students build the perseverance needed to master challenging skills, convert potential into achievement, and reach their goals.
  • STAY ROOTED: We foster true belonging. When staff, students, and families collaborate and support one another, we build a resilient community where every student feels safe, valued, and supported to succeed. South Lane is a special place for each of us.
  • GROW STRONG: We build healthy daily habits. Equipping students with strong academics alongside practical life skills creates the foundation for success in school, careers, and adulthood.

Our academic growth scores continue to climb at South Lane, and when we pair that momentum with these foundational values, we create a true recipe for long-term success. Thank you for prioritizing education, encouraging perseverance at home, and partnering with us. If you have questions or need support, the staff in our schools are ready to help.

A renewed spirit is growing in South Lane, and having students back learning in our classrooms is a wonderful sight! Welcome to the new school year!

With gratitude and excitement,

Todd Miller
