Message for Families & Students

Dear AKHS Families,

Picture Day

Picture day this year will be October the 27th. This is a great opportunity to get a student ID and have a picture to remember the year. More information coming soon.

Mid Term Grades & End of the Quarter

Families will be receiving their students midterm grades next week. The quarter ends on November 13th. Please contact your students teacher with any questions or concerns. We are here to work together to help prepare AKHS students for graduation and next steps.

Student Council

At AKHS, we value student leadership and believe students should have opportunities to practice skills they can carry into their futures. We are in the process of forming a Student Council that will provide meaningful input on the future of our school. Through this work, students will develop skills in communication, collaboration, problem-solving, advocacy, and responsible decision-making while helping shape a school community where all students can thrive.

Students will nominate themselves to run and will be voted in to represent 1 person from each cohort. The council will also include our student representatives for the school board.

Classes on Friday

We have had many successful Friday field trips, with students visiting Lane Community College (LCC), Wolf Creek Job Corps, and the Oregon Zoo. These experiences give students opportunities to explore new environments, connect classroom learning to the real world, and consider future possibilities. Looking ahead, we will welcome speakers from Peterson CAT and Weyerhaeuser to discuss career pathways and apprenticeship opportunities. Students will also have the chance to learn wood carving from Al Kennedy, our school’s original principal, connecting students with AKHS history while learning a new hands-on skill.

We love it when students are here

Please encourage your student to attend school every day. Each day matters! Regular attendance supports academic progress, helps students build meaningful connections with others, and ensures they have access to learning opportunities that prepare them for their next steps.

At AKHS, students who attend at least 90% of the time are considered regular attenders. Students who attend consistently are more likely to experience academic success, build positive relationships, and feel connected to their school community. Every day at AKHS is an opportunity to grow, connect, and build toward the future!

Behavioral Health Profession Student Opportunity

AKHS students have opportunities to explore the Behavioral Health Pathway (BHP), a program that introduces students to careers in mental health and helping others. Through coursework, mentoring, training, and hands-on experiences with community providers, students learn about mental health, human behavior, and ways to support others. Students may also earn high school and college credit while exploring future career opportunities. Interested students can connect with their school counselor to learn more!
